Note
|
Had siblings - David Cullinane possibly knows of them? Alexander King farmed and raised horses on his property Avoca, which was just out of Kiama on the Shellharbour Road (homestead now demolished?). One of his horses, Wallaby, was ridden by his brother-in-law Robert Marks in the first Sydney Cup, run then at Homebush. From an interview with Shirley Fegent: Alex King owned two race horses, Vanity a bay and a good galloper and Wallaby a roan with a short tail who could jump and gallop. Both raced at the old Hyde Park course. The silver cup that Shirley has inherited via Alex's son Harry, was won by Wallaby. The lid was handed down via Alex's daughter Mary, sadly the lid was stolen from Mary Christmas. |
