Cherie's Suitors

Memories of brother Don King, in email to Bob King 10/10/2020

I also remember Cherie’s succession of suitors. First, John Brothers. I remember him visiting Cherie and he gave me sixpence to disappear and go out and buy a comic (getting rid of the little brother who was hanging around). I also remember him trying to impress dad by thoroughly washing and drying dishes and saying "if a job is worth doing, it's worth doing well" I thought that was funny because it was so obvious.

Another boyfriend who I thought was really cool was Ken Boor. He was tall, blond and handsome and played baseball (I was taken to a game that he was in). He also dressed in the latest American fashion. WOW!

Finally, Les, who was in the army at the time and I thought was not so cool. But then one day he really impressed me and all the neighbourhood kids when he drove to our house in an armoured car and gave me and my friends a drive around the block. Prestige!
